George Gershwin (1898-1937)

Rhapsody In Blue

arranged for reed quintet and string orchestra/quintet by John Romano

(piano reduction included - in case you don’t have a orchestra handy)

Rhapsody In Blue (1924) by George Gershwin is an iconic concerto for piano but also possibly the most famous and recognizable clarinet solo in history. This arrangement by John Romano (2020) transfers the role of the solo piano to the reed quintet. The result is a delightful showpiece in the style of a jazz concerto grosso with string orchestra. In addition to a full concerto, it can also be performed as a chamber piece with string quintet or piano accompaniment (included). This arrangement is the complete Rhapsody In Blue. Traditional cuts can be made for timing purposes. The set includes a full orchestral score, all parts, and a piano reduction.
